The Xantrex XW Solar Charge Controller (XW SCC) is a photovoltaic (PV) charge controller that tracks the electrical maximum power point of a PV array to deliver the maximum available current for charging batteries. When charging, the XW SCC regulates battery voltage and output current based on the amount of energy available from the PV array and state-of-charge of the battery.

The XW SCC can be used with 12, 24, 36, 48, and 60-volt DC battery systems and is able to charge a lower nominal-voltage battery from a higher nominal-voltage array. For example, the XW SCC can charge a 12-volt battery from a 36-volt array. This provides flexibility for installers to use longer wiring runs without compromising efficiency. The XW Solar Charge Controller can be installed (in single or multi-unit configurations) with Xantrex XW Hybrid Inverter/Charger(s) or can be used in other solar energy systems where a solar charge controller is needed.

The XW SCC incorporates a dynamic Maximum Power Point Tracking (MPPT) algorithm designed to maximize energy harvest from the PV array. The MPPT constantly adjusts the operating points of the array to ensure it stays on the maximum power point. It does not stop energy harvest to sweep the array like some other competing products. This feature is beneficial all sunlight conditions, especially in areas with fast moving cloud cover and quickly changing solar conditions.

60 Amp 220 Volt DC Solid State Relay

The Xantrex MPPT60-150 includes user programmable auxillary 12 volt relay driver to perform various functions. This is referred to as the AUX mode in the MPPT60-150's manual. The AUX mode in conjunction with this 60 amp DC solid state relay can be used as a:

• Vent Fan- when the Vent Fan voltage set point is exceeded, the vent fan will run for at least 15 seconds (the fan helps remove hydrogen from battery enclosure), even if the set point is exceeded for only a few seconds due to a surge. If the set point is exceeded for longer than 15 seconds, the fan will stay on until the voltage drops below the set point. It then takes 15 seconds before the fan shuts off.
• PV Trigger -  deactivates the relay to disconnect the array when the input voltage is too high (above 150 volts to protect the Xantrex MPPT60-150 from destruction)
• Diversion Control - diverts excess power to a DC load (air or water heater) from the batteries when a wind or water turbine is connected directly to the battery bank
• Low Battery Disconnect - activates/deactivates the AUX load(s) when a user determined voltage and time levels are reached to protect battery from deep discharge and damage.

25 Amp 24-240 Volt AC Solid State Relay

This 25 amp 240 volt AC solid state relay can be used with the Xantrex MPPT60-150 to operate an AC (120 or 240 Volt) load as a diversion load. This load could be a standard AC 120/240 volt air heater or water heating element.

The AC diversion load should not have a fan as fans do not like to operate with a PWM input.

It could also be used with the Xantrex MPPT60-150 to as a low battery disconnect for an any AC load or even the entire inverter output up to 25 amps to protect the battery from deep discharge and damage.
